Limited Obstetrical Ultrasound

Your first step after a positive pregnancy test is to get an ultrasound. A limited obstetrical ultrasound can tell you a variety of things about your pregnancy and is provided up to 11 weeks gestation, or your first trimester. This diagnostic tool provides answers for many of your questions and could identify whether you have a viable pregnancy – or if you might miscarry. One in four pregnancies ends in natural miscarriage; determining the viability of the pregnancy is an important first step in decision making.

Through ultrasounds we can:

  • Confirm pregnancy
  • Inspect gestational sac (To rule out tubal pregnancy which would require immediate care)
  • Determine gestational age
  • Identify cardiac activity

Even if you are thinking about having an abortion, you will need an ultrasound to determine how far along you are. Confirming whether you are actually pregnant and identifying gestational age is imperative to determining what type of abortion procedure might be available.

Once your pregnancy is confirmed through an ultrasound, we can help you with your next steps! You are not alone. Our staff can provide you with information on all your options and talk with you confidentially about your questions and concerns.
